Grade 6 Exploratory Options 2018-2019

Students will have to choose 1 Music and 1 Art class while in grade 6.  A total of 6 options will be needed for the year.  Below is the course descriptions for each complementary course.

Food Intro:

An introduction to cooking. Recipes that students can make at home will be the focus, along instruction working in a kitchen safely.

Art:

This is an introductory course, designed to give students tools and skill development to enhance their abilities in visual art. Students will use a variety of different media to draw, paint and sculpt our way through different projects. Students will work throughout the term to create projects.

 

Drama:

This drama program will have everyone using and developing their gifts in areas such as acting, voice, movement, and leadership.

Green Living:

Are you interested in making real change in your community? Join Mr. Grover in implementing changes for the planet here at CLMS. You will organize and develop your own project that will contribute to the health of the planet. You will contribute to the school community by cleaning and maintaining all the recycling of the building and reducing the carbon footprint of our school.

 

Movie Basics:

Do you love movies? Do you know how they are made? Have you ever stopped to analyze lighting, themes, and character choices? This exploratory class is for grade 6 students who love movies and truly want to look deeper into the movie magic. The class will watch 3 films and analyze various components including: script, film photography, music, special effects, themes, acting for film and more.

Music 6:

In Grade 6, your child will explore different rhythms and scales and will perform songs written in a variety of scales. They will study theory, African Drumming, and a continuation of Ukulele skills.

Coding:

In this introductory class students will work to develop a simple understanding of basic coding. Whether planning daily tasks with algorithms or working with robots, like Ozobots and Dash, you will learn to use block based coding to complete fun and challenging tasks or obstacles. Students will work with technology to integrate their learning with other media (music or video), perhaps a robot dance video.

 

Extended PE:

In this PE class we will be outside playing large group games designed to test your ability to lead, follow, strategize and build endurance. Students will also be expected to design and teach a game to their peers that tests these abilities.

Computer Basics:

In this course, students will learn how to use online tools and software tools. The focus will be on typing, Google Docs/Presentation, Google Classroom, Powerschool, and Macbook programs to name a few.
