A total of 6 options will be needed for the year.  Below is the course descriptions for each complementary course.

Art 7:

This is an introductory course, designed to give students technical art training and skill development to enhance their abilities in visual art. Students will be using a variety of different media to draw, paint and sculpt our way through different projects. This course will be offered each term, but the specific projects will change throughout the year.

 

Course Fee: $25

Band 7:

Year-long course. Students must sign up for all 3 terms.

Wind Instrument rental fee- approx. $210.00(depending on the instrument and where you rent from)

School percussion rental fee- $30.00 per year (this is for the maintenance of all the percussion instruments)

Band 7 will learn and musicality as individuals, small ensembles and as a large performing group. Students who enroll in this class are expected to practice at home too. Through technical studies, and interesting repertoire, this class will have the opportunity to play at 2-3 concerts, perform at a festival and participate clinics run by professional musicians. Additionally, there will be an opportunity band 7 students will participate in a one-day band camp which will be supplemented by fundraising.

Business Basics:

Do you want to be your own boss? This course encourages you to explore how you can use your passions and interests to help you make money! Throughout the term, you will develop an understanding of the various functions of business. including budgeting, marketing, information and communication technology, and the importance of effective customer communication. Throughout this course, you will follow specific steps to develop a business plan, which will be presented to a panel at the end of the term.

Coding/Robotics:

In this introductory class students will work to develop a simple understanding of basic coding. Working with robots, like Ozobots and Dash, students will learn to use block based coding and other coding languages to complete fun and challenging tasks and develop games. Students will work with multiple platforms to developing problem-solving skills and use technology as a tool to engage in creative, productive learning.

Drama 7:

This course will allow students to develop skills in self-awareness and knowledge of others. They will develop a confidence in front of an audience, and enhance imagination, creativity, collaboration, and both interpersonal and intercultural communication.

Foods 7:

This course will teach you the basics for catering your own event. Examples of menus may included planning for a weekend brunch, afternoon appetizers, and a three course dinner. At the end of the course you will create and cook a suitable menu for a family event of your choosing. If you like cooking, eating, and being creative in the kitchen, this is the course for you!

Introduction to Shop:

Introduction to Shop will introduce students to many various tools and materials. Students will expand their knowledge and skills by transforming simple materials into beautiful projects. Students will learn shop safety, as well as how to use hand and power tools. Projects are designed to give students as much experience as possible while acquiring a basic understanding of many different machines, tools, and skills.

 

Course Fee: $25.00

Photography 7:

Photography 7 is an introductory course, so no experience is necessary. You will learn the basics of photography, including camera functions, and photo composition. Through a variety of assigned projects, you will engage in creativity by photographing a range of subjects and learning to see the world through the lens of your camera. You will have access to a DSLR camera and learn how to use its functions, or you may bring your own camera from home.

 

Course Fee: $20.00

Sewing - Beginning:

This course will serve as a basic introduction to sewing. Students will learn how to lay out and cut a simple pattern, and how to safely use and care for sewing equipment. Students will then apply this knowledge to the construction of a sewing project based upon their ability.

 

Course fee: $25

Cosmetology:

This course introduces students to basic nail care & art, haircare and basic updos, beginner skincare and age-appropriate makeup application. Students will explore topics related to esthetics and beauty, both for personal use and as a future career option. Students need their own personal makeup kit/bag which includes the following products: a hairbrush/comb, cleanser, moisturizer, eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, blush, lip gloss/lipstick and a makeup brush set.
