Student Absent Procedures
Attendance
As per the Alberta School Act, attendance is compulsory, and necessary for success. Attendance will be taken during each of the Homeroom periods. Parents are expected to follow attendance processes by downloading the Safe Arrival App on their mobile device and entering their student’s absence on it before 8am on absent days. If a student is late, or returns after being signed out, they are required to sign back in before going to class. We require written permission from a parent/guardian for alternate transportation. If students have permission to leave the school grounds on their lunch break, the expectation is they will return before 1259pm when the first class has started.
Extended Absence
Whenever a parent/guardian anticipates that a student will be absent for prolonged periods of time, for reasons other than illness, (to attend a family event or go on a family trip), an “Extended Absence" form is to be completed and submitted to the office in advance of the absence. This form can be picked up in the Office. This form allows teachers to give students instructions regarding missed work, or to plan for the writing of tests when the student returns.
SafeArrival Student Absence Reporting
The SafeArrival student absence reporting system reduces the time it takes to verify student attendance, making it easy for you to report your child’s absence and easy for staff to respond to unexplained student absences. As per the Alberta School Act, attendance is compulsory, and necessary for success. Attendance will be taken during each period. If the student is away for more than 4 consecutive days, a phone call to the office is required (403) 273.1343. Students leaving the school before the end of the school day are required to be signed out by a parent or guardian on our ipads at the Main Office.
With SafeArrival, you are asked to report your child’s absence in advance using any of these three convenient methods. To create your account, please use the same email address/phone number that you use for PowerSchool. If you do not have your PowerSchool login information, please contact your child’s school for assistance.
